HERE IS WHAT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS NEED TO STUDY A MEDICAL DEGREE IN THE PHILIPPINES

This article aims to inform you about everything you should know as an international student applying to study medicine in the Philippines. We focus on entry requirements and exams, as well as the application process, deadlines, and more. 

OVERVIEW  

A medical degree in the Philippines takes about five years to complete. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

  • In most cases, the advanced level subjects you need to take or have taken are biology and chemistry.  
  • Physics and maths are also appreciated.  
  • You need to have high grades in all your A-Level subjects to be accepted to medical school in the Philippines. 
  • If you come from a non-English speaking country, you will also need to prove your English efficiency by taking an English language test. This can be ones like TOEFL or IELTS.  

ENTRANCE EXAM  

Some of the entrance exams you might have to take include 

  • SAT – you would need to score an overall score of at least 1,200 to be accepted into the course.   
  • UPCAT – this is a four-hour-long test that takes place in August each year. It tests your language abilities, and your reading, maths, and science skills. In most cases, you will need at least a score of 60% to pass. 
  • NMAT – this test is on your physics, biology, and chemistry skills as well as on your reasoning skills and your ability to work with quantitative data. This test is given twice a year. and is taken by people applying to a Master’s degree. 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE 

The application process will differ depending on the university you are applying to. In most cases, you will either apply online entirely or you will be asked to mail the documents to the university by post.  

Some of the documentation you will most likely be asked for includes: 

  • A filled-out application (this will most likely be provided by the university you choose to apply to) 
  • A copy of your passport  
  • One or two pictures of yourself (in some cases they might ask you to sign them) 
  • A copy of your birth certificate 
  • Proof of your grades 
  • A certificate of health 
  • Bank statements (to show you can afford the tuition fees) 
  • A copy of your NMAT results 

APPLICATION DEADLINE 

The deadline is around the end of November. This might differ depending on the university you are applying to so be sure to double-check the specific application deadline for your chosen university.  

FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 

The tuition fees prices for international students in the Philippines range from £759 to £1900.  

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 

Unfortunately, most scholarships provided by the Philippines are only for Filipino students.
