INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS APPLYING TO STUDY MEDICINE IN RUSSIA

This article is on everything you need to know about the application process of international medical students to a university in Russia. We focus on entry requirements, tuition fees, application deadlines, and more.

OVERALL

  • It takes about six years to complete medical training in Russia.
  • These six years are divided into pre-clinical and clinical years.
  • This means that some of your studies will be done in the classroom, and in controlled environments within the university.
  • But eventually, you will go on to experience the hospital environment and you will be exposed to working with patients in medical settings.
  • This means that even if you study an English taught course, you will, eventually, need to know how to communicate in Russian as you will be interacting with Russian patients.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • As mentioned earlier, you have the option to enroll in an English-taught medical course in Russia.
  • If you choose to do so you will need to provide proof of your English language proficiency.
  • Those who come from a non-English speaking country will need to take the IELTS, in which you are required to score at least 6.5.
  • If you take the internet-based TOEFL English test you will need to score at least 79 points.
  • And for the paper-based one, the minimum score is about 550.
  • Keep in mind that in some cases this minimum score might be higher, or lower.

When it comes to your grades you will need to have achieved at least a 50% overall score in GCSE science, and English. Or anything equivalent to this at high school level education.

ENTRANCE EXAM

  • In some cases, you will not need to take an entrance exam.
  • But in most cases, you will need to sit the EGE.
  • Or another entrance exam that is prepared for you by the university to test your ability in biology, chemistry, and other relevant topics for the medical course.
  • If you are a student from India, you will need to sit the NEET exam.

The required results for these exams will differ depending on the university. For example, if you are looking to apply for an English-taught medical course at Kazan Federal University you will need to score 50 points in the biology section of the exam, 50 points in the chemistry section, and 40 points in the English section.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Once you chose the university you want to apply to you can submit your application directly to them.

In your application, you will need to provide a completed copy of the application form, which will be provided to you by the university.

In most cases, the documents that you will be asked to provide include

  • A copy of your grades
  • A copy of your passport, or an ID
  • Your birth certificate
  • Proof of your English proficiency

And your will also need to provide the university with your medical history, and a certificate proving your overall health.

Additionally, in order to be accepted to a university in Russia, you need to be HIV-negative.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

The usual application deadline is around the end of August.

This might differ depending on the university, so we strongly recommend double-checking the website of the university you are applying to, to be sure about the application deadline.

APPLICATION TIMELINE

In most cases, the application opens around the start of March.

FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Fees differ per university and course, but you should expect to pay anywhere between £1,496 and £4,326
