Study Medicine in Lithuania – Medicine Study Guide

This article focuses on Lithuania and what it is like when applying to study medicine at a Lithuanian University. We aim to inform you about entry requirements, entrance exams, tuition fees, and more. 


Vilnius University offers a six-year-long English-taught course in medicine. 


  • If you are not a native English speaker, you will need to prove your English language proficiency by taking either the IELTS or the TOEFL iBT.  
  • You will need to score at least 5.5 on the IELTS or 65 TOEFL iBT.  
  • You can also take the Cambridge English B2 First test, in which you will have to score at least 160 points. 
  • It is compulsory to have completed and passed a biology course at A-level (or equivalent). 
  • It is also advantageous to have completed physics, chemistry, or maths at A-level. 
  • You are expected to have a GPA of at least 2.5. 
  • Or a minimum of 27 points on your IB Diploma. 


The entrance exam is given by the university and takes place in April and in June. 

  • You might be exempt from having to sit the entrance exam if you have taken the SAT Subject Test in Biology and scored at least 600, or the MCAT with a score of at least 500.  
  • These results cannot be older than two years. 


The application procedure is different depending on whether you are a non-EU applicant or an EU applicant. 


  • You can apply directly to the university. 
  • You will undergo an online interview. 
  • You will need to provide them with evidence of your education. 
  • You will need to provide a certified copy of your password or your ID. 
  • You will also need to provide proof that you have paid the application fee of £83. 
  • You will also need to write a motivation letter (this should be between 200 to 400 words) 
  • The university might ask you for additional documents when you apply. 
  • You will need to get the documents professionally translated if they aren’t in English or Lithuanian 


  • You can apply through the Association of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions LAMA BPO website or directly to the university. 
  • The application fee is a bit lower for EU students if you are applying from a country within the European Union you will need to pay around £37. 
  • You will need to provide them with evidence of your education. 
  • You will also need to provide proof that you are a citizen of a European country. 
  • Like with non-European students, it is likely you will be asked to provide other documentation, that they will ask you for while you’re applying. 


  • For applicants from outside of the European Union, the application deadline is in June. 
  • If you are an EU national, you have until mid-July to submit your application. 


On average you should expect to pay a tuition fee of around £9,000 a year.
